Another doll ready to go in the mail

This is Peggy's doll ready to fly to California where Velia will add to her and send her home. This RR has gone by very quickly. I love Peggy's journal. It is very unique and doesn't show up well in the photo.

Today I'm also working on a paper quilt. It's my first attempt so won't know for awhile how it goes. I'll post a photo as it get further along.

mannequin sisters

The mannequin dolls and hats were a club project. Yesterday we had a fashion show. These were my entries

Irene's card

here's the card

Irene's birthday

I spent the morning constructing a birthday card for a friend who suffers from Alzheimer's. She is a quilting friend and although she never got into doll making she often came to our meetings because she loved what we were doing. So she is getting a home made quilt card with a doll in a pocket. The invitation specified cards only so that is what she is getting. LOL

photos

Well let's see if this will work this time. Photos of the bench

Finished an old project!!!

Yahoo!!! I finally finished the bedroom bench that I started several months ago. A few of us in our embellishment group decided to make footstools and benches after seeing some in a nice gift shop here in Vegas. The footstools started at $750.00 and went up from there. I started with a piece of 3/4 inch plywood and unfinished legs from the hardware store. I'm so glad that it is finished and in my bedroom!!!

designing a doll

Since I've been invited to teach an art doll class at the Desert Quilters Show in February I better get busy and design a doll. This is as far as I've progressed so far. I'm just kinda doing it as I see it in my head. After I'm satisfied I'll make and write the pattern. It is really rather exciting and fun.

Here is the doll that went home to Kathy White this week from the Orphan Parts RR. I love what everyone did to her. A neat work of art.

another doll ready to mail

I finished my part of another RRR doll today. I will send it on to Velia as soon as I know that she is not in danger of the fires in S. Cal. I tried a new type of arm and am happy with the way it turned out.

spirit doll

I made this doll as a sample for our doll group meeting. She is emblellished with beads, embroidery, saworski crystals, bells and yarns. She has tiny pewter hands, also. I made kits for everyone using imported silks, beads, and other trims. They all turned out nice but I didn't take my camera. ;-((

A new Jacket

I finally finished another new jacket. This is a larger size and will be for sale at our annual art and craft show. The jacket is built on a sweat shirt with various fabrics and trims. I really enjoy making them but can only do so many along with quilts, dolls, bags, art quilts.

She's done I think

Here she is. I think she's finished except for some props. Tanya had a photo transfer face for each of us. I did needle sculpt the nose a bit. She was fun to make. Gee, I might to have to make another one.

She's getting there.

Here is Gwinneth, the good witch, somewhat dressed. Not finished yet but getting there.

A fun day

Today, Valerie and I did a class with Tanya Greb. It is a delightful witch in the making. Tanya did a photo transfer face for each of us and it is her own pattern. There were beginner doll makers as well as some of us more experienced "artists"?? We had a fun day eating pizza, sharing and laughing. This is my girl partially completed with her garments behind her before they get a coffee dip. Yes, she has lace, too. I hope to complete her tomorrow so will post more photos then.

The last one for a while

Yes, the last RR doll will go in the mail tomorrow. Then I can complete the doll from Nat's class. She is really just about there, too. Anyway this flirtatious doll will be in the mail tomorrow so I'm ready for the next 3 to arrive. Whew!!!

Yet another RR doll

As you can see I have taken a little break from Nat's doll to get these RR dolls added to and ready to mail. This one has a most interesting head, hair and lips. Not to mention her wonderful -ss. You'll just have to guess on that but it would put Jennifer's in second place.

Another RR doll goes in the mail

Here she goes. We are almost finished with this RR. Wow!!! Time flies. I love this one, too, especially the gourd head. She'll be home soon.

getting there

This morning I did last minute touch ups on the face and wigged her out. She is finally showing some personality. Her head is just pinned on until I get her costumed.

another day

Last night I made lots of apoxy sculpt leaves to add to the vinery around the bottom of the base. The yellow base was too pale and dead looking so after painting the bottom part red I washed the yellow part of the base with a watered down gold metallic paint. I gilded all of the vines and leaves with a mixture of metallic gold and gold glitter paints and a little water. I sponged a little of that paint onto the rest of the base, also. MUCH BETTER!!!

Nat's doll

This is Nat's prototype. Isn't she great??

The next photos of my doll from Natalie's class

Here she is tonight. Lots more to do as you can see but she's well on her way. More photos as she progresses.

Nat's class

Wow!! We just had an intense three day class from Natale Hamade. Most of us really just wanted to learn her face painting techniques and we weren't disappointed. We spent hours on our heads. But as you can see from the photos there was A LOT more than face painting!! We did the sewing and stuffing of the cloth parts and did the mosaic bases before class and worked our booties off in class, too. If you get a chance bring in this girl to do a class for you or go to take a class wherever she's teaching. Hey, Nat, are you going to put in a proposal for EDAC next year??? Here are some pictures from the class. We still have lots to do before the dolls are completed but this is where we are right now.
